Why cities need more green space than ever: Opinion piece by Mark Niewenhuijsen (ISGlobal)
Studies conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic indicate that, during this pandemic time, there has been an increase in stress and poor mental health. To counter these effects, urban residents have made more visits to green spaces, which are proven to reduce stress and improve restoration in the brain.
To highlight these and other co-benefits of nature to human health and well-being, Mark J Niewenhuijsen, Director of the Urban Planning, Environment and Health Initiative, and of the Air pollution and Urban Environment Programme at GoGreenRoutes partner ISGlobal, published an opinion piece on NetworkNature calling for more and larger natural outdoor spaces in cities.
