As part of GoGreenRoutes, a specific 360-Health indicator has been developed to assess the many dimensions of health, determine the impact of nature-based interventions on the health of urban populations, and enable cost-benefit analyses of these measures.

Nature-based solutions developed using the 360-Health approach provide opportunities for reciprocal benefits for the residents (e.g. addressing health needs) and the environment (e.g. tackling climate change). Our urban 360-Health toolkit can support decision-makers in the implementation of nature-based solutions that will enhance all dimensions of health long-term.

As urbanisation accelerates, cities are growing rapidly, often at the expense of natural environments. This evolution brings challenges like air and noise pollution, urban heat islands, and reduced green spaces, contributing to sedentary lifestyles, stress, mental health issues, and socioeconomic disparities. These conditions can lead to chronic diseases and premature deaths, highlighting the critical need for solutions that reconnect urban residents with nature.

This is why GoGreenRoutes has developed a toolkit to empower a diverse range of stakeholders with the tools and knoweldge necessary to promote urban health through NbS. The 360-Health perspective offers an inclusive and holistic approach, focusing on vitality, engagement, and positive health outcomes. Therefore, this toolkit aims to be a user-friendly, accessible instrument that facilitates informed decision-making and collaborative implementation of NbS.

What is 360-Health?

The GoGreenRoutes intergenerational 360-Health approach is a multi-dimensional concept aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, in particular  Goal 3 - Good Health and Well-being. Ensuring biological, psychological, social and environmental health, for all generations, is key to sustainable development.

The 360-Health approach integrates multiple health domains and encompasses perceptions, attitudes and behaviours related to each of them. GoGreenRoutes has a specific focus on mental health and well-being, physical activity, nutrition, sleep, cognition and performance, social health, human-nature interaction and sustainability in relation to urban nature.
