Mental Health and Climate Change: Can Nature Engagement Enhance Resilience
In Brussels, on World Mental Health Day (Oct.10th) our partner Mental Health Europe, the European Commission, in an event hosted by Stella Kyriakides, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, launched its comprehensive approach to mental health. Integral to this new approach is an awareness of the potential pathways in which nature supports our mental health and well-being. We welcome H.E. Giovanni Buttigieg, the Maltese Ambassador to Ireland, Prof. Ronan Farrell, Dean of Science, Dr Una May CEO Sport Ireland, and Martin Rogan CEO Mental Health Ireland.
Together with our partner Mental Health Ireland, Dr Tadhg MacIntyre (Dept of Psychology) and GoGreenRoutes are developing a knowledge brief on the topic of climate and eco-anxiety with to help guide researchers and practitioners in this field. This topic is of utmost relevance to society and will be a focal point for the students enrolled on our new MSc in Environmental Psychology at Maynooth University.
GoGreenRoutes is a €10.5million Horizon 2020 project focused on promoting urban health across six European cities, with notable collaborations in Malta, France, Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Bulgaria, Ireland and 10 other European countries.
The GoGreenRoutes Project is supported by European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 869764.
